Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) Announces Cloud County Community College: First Kansas Community College to Implement their Drone Curriculum

Cloud County Community College Adopts USI Drone Curriculum

The Unmanned Safety Institute (USI), a subsidiary of ARGUS International, Inc. and the leading provider of educational curriculum and industry certifications to students interested in a career as professional remote pilots, announced Cloud County Community College as the first Kansas college to adopt USI’s drone curriculum.

Cloud County Community College will utilize the curriculum as a precursor to drone operations involving renewable energy assets. The UAS courses are also part of the Precision Ag program and could be used to support other careers fields such as mass communications and substation technician.

“USI’s in depth curriculum provides an ideal foundation in safety, accountability, and unmanned aircraft system technology for remote pilots that will utilize drone technology around critical infrastructure,” said Monte Poersch, Wind Energy Technology Instructor/Advisor for Cloud County Community College.

The curriculum is comprised of four college-equivalent courses totaling over 150 hours of instruction. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take USI’s credentialing exam leading to the Small UAS Safety Certification™, an industry certification demonstrating expertise in the safe and professional application of remotely piloted aircraft making them highly qualified for careers in the burgeoning industry of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly referred to as “drones.”

The program includes a 400-page textbook, instructor aids and course content packaged in USI’s digital Learning Management System.

“The Unmanned Safety Institute is proud to enter into an agreement with Cloud County Community College, awarding students with college credit and our industry certification,” said Aaron Greenwald, President of Unmanned Safety Institute. “This is a great step toward delivering all-inclusive unmanned aviation education to students within the state of Kansas and across the country.”

USI’s education program, now in its third year, has been tremendously successful in the state of Florida, achieving statewide articulation with the Department of Education and having grown to 75 high schools educating over 2,500 students. The program is rapidly expanding to new schools throughout the United States and in place in several countries throughout the world, and is widely recognized by the UAS industry as the most comprehensive curriculum of its kind preparing students for high-skill and high-wage jobs.
