Unmanned Safety Institute Expands Drone Program to Washington State

Bremerton School District in Washington State Adopts USI Drone Curriculum

The Unmanned Safety Institute, a subsidiary of ARGUS International, Inc. and the leading provider of educational curriculum and industry certifications to students interested in a career as professional remote pilots, announced Bremerton School District as the first Washington school district to adopt USI’s drone curriculum.

“As Superintendent of the Bremerton School District, I am both thrilled and thankful that the students in our community will now have access to rigorous coursework in the Aeronautical Engineering field,” Dr. Aaron Leavell, Bremerton School District Superintendent. “This opportunity can lead to an important and critical career field. Much of our future in business, safety and security points to drone intelligence and we are more than pleased to lead the way in engaging young minds in this endeavor.”

Bremerton School District, located across the Puget Sound from Seattle and home to about 5,200 students, will offer courses to Bremerton High School students expanding options for students who are interested in the field of aviation. The new USI Drone Technology and Safety course will be offered as part of an Aeronautical Engineering pathway. Engineering 3 students will learn to build and program drones while this additional course in the pathway will provide them with the opportunity to become USI Safety certified and employable in the new and expanding professional remote pilot industry.

“We are excited to partner with USI, Argus International to provide our students with the opportunity to turn something they love as a hobbyist into a high-skills high-demand STEM career,” said Linda Hupka, Bremerton School District Director of CTE and STEM Education.

“The Unmanned Safety Institute is proud to enter into an agreement with Bremerton School District to provide USI’s drone curriculum to high school students within the state of Washington,” said Aaron Greenwald, President of Unmanned Safety Institute. “This is a great step toward delivering all-inclusive unmanned aviation education to students within the state of Washington and across the country.”

The USI curriculum is comprised of four college-equivalent courses totaling over 180 hours of instruction, including live flights. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to take USI’s credentialing exam leading to the Small UAS Safety Certification, an industry certification demonstrating expertise in the safe and professional application of remotely piloted aircraft making them highly qualified for careers in the burgeoning industry of Unmanned Aircraft Systems, commonly referred to as “drones.”

The program includes a supplemental workbook, instructor aids and course content packaged in USI’s digital Learning Management System.

USI’s education program, now in its third year, has been tremendously successful in the state of Florida, achieving statewide articulation with the Department of Education and having grown to over 100 high schools educating over 2,500 students. The program is rapidly expanding to new schools throughout the United States and in place in several countries throughout the world, and is widely recognized by the UAS industry as the most comprehensive curriculum of its kind preparing students for high-skill and high-wage jobs.
